St
Gregory of Nyssa Orthodox Church is a mission parish of the Archdiocese
of Canada of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA). The founding of
the mission in 1981 was blessed by Archbishop Sylvester of Montreal and
continues today under the omophorion of Our Archbishop, His Eminence Irénée of Ottawa and all Canada. |

St
Gregory’s began as a mission to Queens University students, in the home of the Zion family. On growing, it also met in a chapel at the University. Later, it became a house-church, then moved to a store-front in a strip-mall, and now, at the invitation of the Anglican parish (which built a new building), to the basement of their historic Church in the Cemetery where the first Prime Minister of Canada is buried. |

St
Gregory’s, as is the case with many Orthodox Churches in North America,
follows the New Calendar. The parish serves according to the Typikon (usages)
of the Russian Orthodox Church, with a smattering of Byzantine elements from our Hieromonk of Athonite education, with all services being in the English
language. There is a small amount of Slavonic, Greek, Malayalam, French and Hungarian used from time to time. Membership of the parish presents a wide range
of national backgrounds, with members from North America, Russia, the Balkans,
the Middle East and India. Further, there are a growing number of people
who have entered into Holy Orthodoxy from outside the Orthodox Church. |
